Currently my twin boys are no longer newborns. And there are so many newborn hacks/tips that I’ve learned throughout their first few months of life.

Here are some life-saving newborn baby tips/hacks that have helped me.

1. Swaddle your baby

Whether its in the scorturing heat of summer or the dead of winter. It doesn’t matter.

Swaddling the baby, keeps them warm, calm, and reduces their startling reflex. This think has some great options for 2. Make a SEMI-RIGID baby schedule and stick to it!

Baby’s THRIVE on routine! You need to change the schedule as the baby grows. But most importantly, try and stay on track with the schedule. It will help you organize your day and the baby from becoming overwhelmingly fussy. Remember, the baby is still human, and certain things can be unpredictable, so keep that in mind when things aren’t lining up with the schedule.

In the 1st month, babies feed every 1-3hrs or 8-12x per day. They can have about 6-8 wet diapers, and at least 2 soiled diapers (often more).

A good way to keep track of things with the newborn is with these 4. Sleep when baby sleeps

I’m sure you’ve heard this one before. I know it’s hard to get your work done when the baby is awake, so you’d figure you’ll get try and get it done when the baby sleeps. But since in the beginning the baby sleeps a few times during the day. At least make 1, if not more, of their nap times, yours as well. Trust me, your body and mind will thank you.

5. Learn the important baby cues

Babies give signals when theyre hungery or tired/overstilulated.

For hunger cues look for these signals:

  1. Smacking or licking their lips
  2. Turning head to the side/rooting or turning head quickly back and forth
  3. Bringing hands to mouth
  4. Opening their mouth , making a wide O

It’s important to catch the signals for when the baby is tired before it’s too late, because then the baby becomes overstimulated and is harder to calm down.

For tired cues look for these signals:

  1. Yawning
  2. Rubbing eyes
  3. Avoids eye contact, or looks away
  4. Becoming cranky/fussy/ starts crying
  5. Pulling ears
